Making sense of meaningless numbers

A massive, dark cloud appears at Lambert beach each night about an hour before sunset. Dozens of birds tuck and dive into the water in the center of the dark slick. Snorkeling out, you find yourself immersed in the center of a swirling mass of billions of fish. These few pictures do not even come close to doing justice to the hypnotic, seemingly choreographed movements as they pulse and shimmer and engulf you as you swim into them.
